Korea Burn

July 3rd- Korea Burn!! Burning Man event!

Hey hey!

“Burning Man” in korea aka Korea Burn is planned to be held on July 3~7 at the wide open beaches of Cheongpodae and Chungcheong!

Burning Man world wide has become massively successful due to being a truly unique festival experience.

This year at Korea Burn, the concept is “Elements”
(air, earth, fire, water.)

We think this concept is so perfectly in tune with what Seoul Hiking Group is all about, so we are setting up a Seoul Hiking Group theme camp and organizing a group art installation we can all participate in while we are there! We are conjuring up other fun creative activities centered around the four elements to do as well! We are also open to your suggestions!

[Theme Camp – Wooden Earth!]
1. Main Theme – build a wooden earth! Using our own skills and bare hands, (calling all carpenters) ! Everyone has a talent or skill that is bound to only add to a project like this, so don’t be shy!
– we will collect “abandoned wood” from your places, such as: broken chairs, abandoned furniture, wooden sticks, etc. Anything you see you think would be cool to repurpose!
We will try to load everything onto our chartered bus but if we need more than a bus we can arrange a van or truck.
– we prepare hammer,saw,nails

2. other activities for our camp (draft, ideas)
– we will provide water for free by filtering
– yoga practice together
– make hang over soup “Bean sprout soup with garlic” with the fire by wood, hand out for free
– Sunrise beach walking, take hundreds of people to walk following the steps on the beach in a row! pilgrimage on beach!
– Poo bucket , we set up our own poo bucket, there is a bucket with some permeant smell-free.it’s eco-friendly. we will get all the pee and poo from people and last day,mix them with soil and make it natural fertilizer! of course!
Then, throw to forest!
– makgeolli bar – 100% no chemical additives makgeolli bar!
– more ideas to post – let us hear what you got!

This will be the best way to enjoy Korea Burn with all our regular members!
Don’t hesitate to sign up!

*To participate in Korea Burn, you must purchase a ticket from the Korea Burn website (80,000Won)

We will collect an additional 38,000won which includes:

What Is Burning Man?
Once a year, tens of thousands of participants gather in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert to create Black Rock City, dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance. They depart one week later, having left no trace whatsoever. Burning Man is also an ever-expanding year-round culture based on the Ten Principles.
What Isn’t Burning Man?
Burning Man isn’t your usual festival, with big acts booked to play on massive stages. In fact, it’s more of a city than a festival, wherein almost everything that happens is created entirely by its citizens, who are active participants in the event.
The 10 Principles Blog Series
Representing the cornerstone of Burning Man Project’s Philosophical Center, the 10 Principles blog series is an ongoing exploration of the values that have grown out of the Burning Man community. You are invited to join the conversation.

1. Radical InclusionAnyone may be a part of Burning Man. We welcome and respect the stranger. No prerequisites exist for participation in our community.
2. GiftingKorea Burn is devoted to acts of gift giving. The value of a gift is unconditional. Gifting does not contemplate a return or an exchange for something of equal value.
3. DecommodificationIn order to preserve the spirit of gifting, our community seeks to create social environments that are unmediated by commercial sponsorships, transactions, or advertising. We stand ready to protect our culture from such exploitation. We resist the substitution of consumption for participatory experience.
4. Radical Self-relianceKorea Burn encourages the individual to discover, exercise and rely on his or her inner resources.
5. Radical Self-expressionRadical self-expression arises from the unique gifts of the individual. No one other than the individual or a collaborating group can determine its content. It is offered as a gift to others. In this spirit, the giver should respect the rights and liberties of the recipient.
6. Communal EffortOur community values creative cooperation and collaboration. We strive to produce, promote and protect social networks, public spaces, works of art, and methods of communication that support such interaction.
7. Civic ResponsibilityWe value civil society. Community members who organize events should assume responsibility for public welfare and endeavor to communicate civic responsibilities to participants. They must also assume responsibility for conducting events in accordance with local, state and federal laws.
8. Leaving No TraceOur community respects the environment. We are committed to leaving no physical trace of our activities wherever we gather. We clean up after ourselves and endeavor, whenever possible, to leave such places in a better state than when we found them.
9. ParticipationOur community is committed to a radically participatory ethic. We believe that transformative change, whether in the individual or in society, can occur only through the medium of deeply personal participation. We achieve being through doing. Everyone is invited to work. Everyone is invited to play. We make the world real through actions that open the heart.
10. ImmediacyImmediate experience is, in many ways, the most important touchstone of value in our culture. We seek to overcome barriers that stand between us and a recognition of our inner selves, the reality of those around us, participation in society, and contact with a natural world exceeding human powers. No idea can substitute for this experience.
